Talawa Theatre Company’s acclaimed TYPT (Talawa Young People’s Theatre Programme) returns this summer, running from Monday 21 July to Saturday 16 August 2025 at Talawa Studio, Fairfield Halls, Croydon.

This flagship programme offers emerging Black theatre makers aged 18–25 the opportunity to collaborate with leading industry professionals and create an original production in just four weeks.

This year’s cohort will be guided by director TD. Moyo, whose theme I’ll Burn The Ocean/For You will shape the creative process. Moyo is known for her work across theatre, opera and film, with credits including No More Mr Nice Guy, Karmen, and Tribe.

TD. Moyo said, “I’ll Burn The Ocean/For You is a cosmic collection of love stories, told through a Black-British lens. This new work invites audiences into a world where love is boundless, ancestral, and defiantly present. The TYPT25 cohort will source, create, write and share love stories that may or may not have happened, taking inspiration from actual events that shaped our history and sometimes unearthing dreams married with reality of what love stories feel like in all their joy, complexity and sometimes tragedy for those who identify as Black and British.”

Supporting Moyo is assistant director Frances Calliste, dramaturg Robert Awosusi, and contributing writer Tife Kusoro, winner of the George Devine Award for G at the Royal Court.

Founded in 1995, TYPT is a free programme that has launched the careers of notable alumni including Michaela Coel, Nonso Anozie and Femi Oguns MBE.
