Due to popular demand brand-new comedy Mothers of The Brides has added further dates to their World Premiere UK tour.

BBC One’s The Traitors favourite Diane Carson makes her stage debut alongside popular Scottish Soap stars Julie Coombe (The Vagina Monologues, Lena, Hormonal Housewives) and Helen Logan ( Local Hero, Royal Lyceum); Hamlet , Bard in the Botanics). Mothers of the Brides opens at Central Theatre Chatham on 19 March 2025, touring until the end of May.

Diane, a retired teacher from Lancashire became a firm fan favourite in the most recent BBC One series of reality TV show The Traitors which saw her live death on the show receiving a whopping 4 million viewers in the process.  She is excited to be taking to the stage for the very first time to play ‘happily unmarried’ Audrey and says: “I’m so looking forward to the challenge of being on stage in Mothers of the Brides. I was delighted when i was offered the part and knew that I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to try something new and to tour with two other fabulous ladies. After all, you only live once! I love comedy and making people laugh, so this is the perfect opportunity to do just that!”

Helen Logan, who will play Sabrina, was most recently seen on the small screen in the new Sky series Lockerbie and is known for roles in River City, We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place and A Mug’s Game, alh for the BBC. Her cast theatre credits include a number of pantomimes at Perth theatre, several seasons at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre and many additional theatre tours and productions.

Helen continues: “ I’m thrilled to be doing Mothers of the Bride, as a HUGE Traitors fan I’m really looking forward to working with Diane and going on tour with the outrageously funny Julie Coombe sounds like a blast!”

Julie Coombe is one half of the writing duo behind the show and makes up the trio of Mothers playing Trisha.  Julie, who may be best known for appearing in BBC’s River City as Terri the ‘tart with no heart’ , has enjoyed an incredibly varied career. With a huge number of pantomimes to her name, she has performed in Scottish classics like The Slab Boys Trilogy and The Steamie. She wowed audiences with her outrageous performance in The Vagina Monologues which led to the creation of her hit comedy sketch show Hormonal Housewives, a juggernaut which has seen six UK tours, all of which Julie has led. Recently she created the role of Hilda in Lena a smash hit at 2023 Edinburgh festival.  As a writer Julie has penned comedies for the BBC including On The Couch and the sitcom PTA.

Julie adds: “We wanted to do a show about a milestone life event that people would relate to. As you move up to that next stage you don’t become any less fun. Your pals still have your back & there’s still plenty of daftness & laughs. We wanted to reinforce that women don’t disappear. Bolder not older and unashamedly funny!

I’m looking forward to being back on tour with a couple of brilliant women & I’m so excited for the audiences; to reacquaint with some old friends and make lots of new ones. “

You are cordially invited to meet the Mothers of the Brides – three besties who are up to their neck in nuptials, directing their daughters on the bridal path to wedded bliss.  All three women doing their best to keep the matrimonial mayhem to a minimum and avoid deadlock over wedlock.

From dream dresses to nightmare guests, fiddly fascinators to flippin’ impossible First Dance choreography, these gals have scaled the peaks and rugby-tackled the perils of wedding planning.

Mothers of the Brides is presented by Almack Productions from emerging Scottish theatre producer Alan Mackintosh who was awarded the Stage One Bursary for New Producers in Spring 2024.  Almack Productions toured Misty’s Magical Adventure in Scotland in 2023.  Previous productions include the No.1 UK Tour of Avenue Q throughout 2019; Nunsense in February 2018 and Little Shop of Horrors in October 2018.

The brand-new comedy is written by husband-and-wife duo Julie Coombe and John MacIsaac, known for their writing partnership on smash hit comedies Hormonal Housewives, Girls just Wanna Have Fun and Housewives on Holiday.  It is Directed by John MacIsaac.

The tour will visit East Grinstead, Ramsgate, Worcester, Bristol, Lancaster, Lytham St Anne’s, Stevenage, Dunstable, Bradford, Stockport, Middleton, Grimsby, Rotherham, Southend, Lowestoft, Bridlington, Shrewsbury, Crewe, Kettering, Inverness, Swindon, Exmouth, Portsmouth, Reading, South Shields, The Wirral, Halifax, Lincoln, Perth, Peterborough, Coventry, Billingham, Arbroath, Greenock and Lichfield with more dates to be added.

Mothers of the Brides is a fun-filled, sketch-packed, gag-fuelled, laugh heavy trip through the magical maze of getting your offspring to the altar. Whether you have a wedding coming up or never want to get hitched again this show is guaranteed to have you laughing UP the aisle!
