This year sees the biggest ever VAULT Festival, and with over 300 shows to choose from the possibilities are endless. We’ve picked five productions worth seeing in week 5.
Constellations (22nd – 23rd February)
Constellations is an exploration of humanity’s relationship to the cosmos. It is witty and sensual, a multi-sensorial experience that sits somewhere between electronic music, devised theatre and sci-fi musical. It premiered at The Cockpit in 2016, where it received glowing reviews and was described as ‘Laurie Anderson meets the Clangers’, and ‘hypnotic, mesmerising, chilling.’
Conquest (21st – 25th February)
Described as Fight Club meets Calendar Girls, Conquest is a funny and honest exploration of sexual consent and the minefield of feminism today. With sex education repeatedly on the agenda in parliament and evidence of sexual misconduct continually re-surfacing in the media, this is a timely piece reflecting on consent and the inequalities women still face in the bedroom.
The Very Important Child (21st – 25th February)
This is a theatre show. Also, it’s a lecture. But it starts with a song. But all is not what it seems.
Ever wondered how you got this way? Why you shout at the other cars? Why you become a toddler when you’re hungry? Or did the starry-eyed teenager you were turn into a kind, hardened adult. WHY? The Very Important Child demonstrates Loevinger’s theory of human ego development.
I Have a Bad Feeling About This (21st – 25th February)
House Of Blakewell are back at VAULT with an authentic, funny and touching new show about making friends, everyday battles and anxiety disorders. Join the award-winning creators of House Party and We Can Make You Happy for show tunes, woodwind duels and tap dancing in this brand new comedy musical.
The Quantum Physics of My Heart (21st – 25th February)
Using neither probability nor logic, Amy invites you to her comedy science lecture about growing up in the 90s. Inspired by her dad’s work as a scientist, Amy has always tried to understand the world around her using science. Now, with the help of some complex scientific theories (not really), Amy grapples with the teenage experiences that shaped her, such as a) teacher crushes, b) best friend betrayals, c) an inappropriate advance from a friend’s dad and d) trying to be a good Jew.
