The National Theatre has announced new casting and released rehearsal images for the remaining dates of the critically acclaimed UK and Ireland tour of War Horse, which continues until 8 November 2025.

Based on Michael Morpurgo’s beloved novel, War Horse has been hailed as “one of British theatre’s most phenomenal creations” (★★★★★ The Guardian) and “one of the greatest theatrical experiences of the 21st century” (★★★★★ The Stage).

The production, adapted by Nick Stafford and originally directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, has been seen by over 8.4 million people worldwide and has won more than 25 major awards.

Joining the cast for the remainder of the tour are Danny Hendrix as Veterinary Officer Martin, Clara Lioe as Emilie / Joey as a Foal, and Christopher Naylor as Private Klausen / Priest.

They join a large ensemble including Rianna Ash, Alexander Ballinger, Eloise Beaumont-Wood, Ike Bennett, Haydn Burke, Sophie Cartman, Jo Castleton, Owen Dagnall, Felicity Donnelly, Tom Gilbey, and many more.

  • Wales Millennium Centre (15 – 25 October)

War Horse tells the powerful story of a young boy, Albert, and his horse Joey, set against the backdrop of the First World War. The production features stirring music, songs, and groundbreaking puppetry by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company.

This tour marks 110 years since the start of World War I and celebrates the 40th anniversary of Morpurgo’s novel, which has sold over 2 million copies in 44 languages.

Creative development for the tour is led by Tom Morris with revival direction by Katie Henry. The team includes Rae Smith (design), Adrian Sutton (additional music), Adrian Kohler (puppet design), Rob Casey (lighting), Toby Sedgwick (movement), and Matthew Forbes (puppet direction), among many others.

War Horse premiered at the National Theatre in 2007 before transferring to the West End and touring internationally, including Broadway, Toronto, and Berlin.
