Following the success of the 2017 Kenneth Branagh New Drama Writing Awards which was won by ‘Fade Out’ written by Lyndsey Honour and directed by Linda Miller, the Windsor Fringe are delighted to announce that entries for the 2018 competition are now open.
Fringe Chairperson Karen Darville says ‘We are delighted to open the 15th Kenneth Branagh New Drama Writing Awards competition. We are looking forward to receiving the usual high quality of application from the wide range of international writers that this renowned competition attracts and to seeing the final three turned into dynamic productions. Having this Award is an integral part of the Fringe and creates a fantastic finale to the two weeks of artistic endeavours’
Across the globe aspiring writers are invited to submit one off, unpublished one act plays which must be no more than 30 minutes long, have a cast of no more than six actors, and be suitable for staging in a studio theatre. The closing date is March 5th.
Each play is numbered and assessed anonymously by a group of specialist readers and the shortlist of nine chosen and then reviewed by a pair of judges who decide on the ultimate three plays. The winning play is chosen at this time, judged purely on the writing, but kept secret until the Awards ceremony after the final performance at the end of the Windsor Fringe, when the winner is announced to receive this prestigious award and a cheque for £500.
The Kenneth Branagh New Drama Writing Awards are a key focal point of the Windsor Fringe, the UK’s second longest running Fringe, which runs every year at the end of September, with a broad range of activities across the Arts.
