Acclaimed broadcaster and actor Zeb Soanes will star in Two Halves of Guinness, a new UK tour celebrating the life and legacy of Sir Alec Guinness. The production opens on 29 January 2026 and tours until 2 May 2026, with a press night at Park Theatre on 22 April.

Marking the 25th anniversary of Guinness’ death, Two Halves of Guinness offers a witty and heartfelt journey through the career of one of Britain’s greatest actors. With nearly 70 plays, 50 films, and two Oscars to his name, Guinness’ legacy spans Shakespeare, Ealing comedies, and Hollywood blockbusters.

Despite his vast body of work, Guinness feared he would be remembered only for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. This new play explores his encounters with John Gielgud, Shakespeare, and the galaxy of stars who shaped his career.

Zeb Soanes, known for his work on BBC Radio 4 and Classic FM, brings Guinness to life on stage. Soanes once wrote a letter to Guinness at age 17 and received a handwritten reply wishing him luck in his career.

Zeb Soanes said: “Alec Guinness had an enigmatic quality that drew you into his performances – to join him in whichever game he was playing. His ability to inhabit such a vast array of characters, exploring the many faces of himself, was hugely appealing to me when I was growing up and inspired me to pursue a career in acting. Now, 25 years since his death, it is a delight to celebrate his remarkable talent – and in many of the theatres he knew.”

Written by Mark Burgess (Einstein in Cromer, The Wrong Hero, A King’s Speech), the production is directed by Selina Cadell (Twelfth Night, Uncle Vanya, Great Expectations, Hamlet starring Eddie Izzard).

Set design is by Lee Newby (Starter for Ten, Barnum, The Last Five Years) and music is composed by Eliza Thompson, whose credits include The Madness of King George, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Hamlet.

Produced by Julian Bird for Green Room Ents, Two Halves of Guinness promises a theatrical rediscovery of Guinness beyond the Jedi robe, filled with wit, warmth, and imagination.
