Sadler’s Wells International Associate Company Acosta Danza will return to Sadler’s Wells Theatre this autumn with Cuban Baroque, a new double bill running from 7 to 10 October 2026.

Artistic director Carlos Acosta’s latest programme combines the artistry of the Baroque era with the energy, creativity and vibrancy of Cuban dance, bringing together two works from internationally renowned choreographers.

Opening the evening is the world premiere of Pearls by Andonis Foniadakis. Set to Esteban Salas’ Salve Regina, the new work explores the classic chaconne looping structure, moving through phases of acceleration, fracture and rebound while blending Baroque lyricism with contemporary Cuban influences.

The programme concludes with Goyo Montero’s acclaimed Chacona, originally created for Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett. Inspired by the final movement of Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D Minor for violin, the work showcases Acosta Danza’s 16 performers in a physically demanding and strikingly unified performance.

The production will premiere at York Theatre Royal from 1 to 3 October before making its London debut at Sadler’s Wells Theatre. The tour will then continue to Norwich Theatre Royal later in October, with further UK dates planned for spring 2027.

Speaking about the production, Carlos Acosta said: “I am very excited about this programme which will encapsulate the essence of Acosta Danza, fusing as it will, classical, Cuban and contemporary vocabularies and styles. I am, of course, a big fan of both choreographers and am delighted that Andonis will create a brand new piece on my dancers. I look forward to seeing how that develops over the coming months. The flavour of the evening is summarised neatly by the title Cuban Baroque, but essentially this is a programme that anyone interested in any kind of dance can enjoy. I look forward, as always, to seeing how audiences react to the atmosphere this programme will create in the theatres.”

Founded by Acosta in 2015, Acosta Danza has developed a reputation for combining Cuba’s rich dance traditions with classical and contemporary styles. The company has performed extensively around the world and most recently won Best Mid-Scale Company at the National Dance Awards.

Cuban Baroque is produced by Valid Productions in collaboration with York Theatre Royal.
