Actors’ Children’s Trust and the Royal Theatrical Fund have announced a merger that will unite the two charities under a single organisation dedicated to supporting people across the performing arts sector.
The move will see Actors’ Children’s Trust merge into the Royal Theatrical Fund, combining the organisations’ expertise, resources and experience to create what they describe as a stronger and more sustainable charity. Both organisations are members of Acting for Others.
The newly combined organisation will continue the work of supporting children of actors, as well as theatre, film, television and associated industry workers, while aiming to provide a more seamless and consistent route to accessing help.
The charities say the merger will preserve the values that have guided both organisations for generations, including community, dignity and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those working in the entertainment industry.
Samantha Bond, Chairwoman of the Royal Theatrical Fund, said: “Today, we come together not simply to merge two charities, but to unite behind a shared purpose. While each organisation has its own proud history, we have always been guided by the same values: compassion, service, and a commitment to supporting the theatrical community.
“By joining forces, we will be stronger together. We will combine our expertise, make better use of our resources, and increase the impact of our work. Most importantly, we will be able to reach more people and provide even greater support, helping to ensure that no actor’s child goes without because of the uncertainties of our profession.
“Together, The Royal Theatrical Fund and The Actors’ Children’s Trust have the opportunity to create an organisation that honours the proud legacy of both charities while building something even stronger for future generations.
“As Chairwoman, I am genuinely excited about what lies ahead. This merger marks the beginning of a new chapter – one defined by collaboration, shared purpose, and a renewed commitment to making an even greater difference for everyone in our theatrical family.”
According to the organisations, bringing their services together will make support more accessible while increasing their ability to respond to changing needs across the industry. The merger is also intended to strengthen innovation, improve resilience and ensure resources are focused where they are most needed.
The charities highlighted the strong cultural alignment between the two organisations, noting their shared commitment to compassion, inclusion and putting people at the centre of their work.
Founded in 1839, the Royal Theatrical Fund has a long history of providing financial assistance to those working in or retired from the entertainment industry. Actors’ Children’s Trust focuses on supporting actors with children and reducing the risk of family crises through financial and practical assistance.
The merger is being positioned as a long-term investment in the future of the theatre, film, television and wider performing arts community, ensuring support remains available for generations to come.
