This autumn, Shoreditch Town Hall unveils a compelling trio of productions that delve into themes of women’s defiance, survival, and climate change.

From solo performance to ensemble drama, the season explores embodiment, mental health, and intergenerational change through bold theatrical storytelling.

Opening the season is Anatomy of Survival (11–12 September), a darkly comic, multisensory production from award-winning playwright Vivienne Franzmann and choreographer Frauke Requardt.

Co-produced by The Place, the show transforms a woman’s meltdown in a coffee shop into a visceral exploration of perception and panic, blending dance, music, and science.

Commissioned by The Place, The Royal Court Theatre, and The Royal Philharmonic Society, Anatomy of Survival investigates the fragility of our shared reality when survival mode takes over.

Next, LANDSCAPE (24–25 October) brings Cypriot artist Elena Antoniou to the stage in a fiercely personal solo performance.

Presented in collaboration with Dance Umbrella, this intimate work confronts vulnerability and desire, balancing trauma and eroticism in a bold act of self-objectification.

Having worked with institutions such as the Marina Abramović Institute and Onassis Stegi, Antoniou’s choreographic voice is both powerful and uncompromising.

Rounding out the season is Black Sheep (24 October – 1 November), a new play from acclaimed company curious directive.

Set in the Council Chamber, this female-led family drama follows three generations of the Carter family, exploring succession, sustainability, and mental health in rural Britain.

Developed with twelve Norfolk farmers and supported by the National Theatre Generate Programme, Black Sheep offers a rare and poignant look at the pressures facing farming communities today.

Ellie Browning, Head of Cultural Programme at Shoreditch Town Hall, said:
“This season we’re excited to partner with leading venues, festivals and companies who bring bold artists and rich ideas to Shoreditch Town Hall. It’s a joy to see the building animated in such different ways – from the intimacy of a solo performance in our main space to the charged energy of shared debate in the Council Chamber. We’re delighted to share Anatomy of Survival with The Place, an experimental collaboration between writer and choreographer that plays with form, blending humour, movement and science. Our commitment to platforming women and our experiences continues with Elena Antoniou’s LANDSCAPE – a powerful, uncompromising solo work that places her at the centre of our grand Assembly Hall. And we welcome back curious directive, inviting London audiences to reflect on how the systems we rely on are shifting in the face of climate change.”
