Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical Starlight Express is set to race onto cinema screens around the world this autumn, as Trafalgar Releasing announces the theatrical release of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express – Live on Stage.
Filmed during the production’s acclaimed revival at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, the stage spectacular will be screened in cinemas internationally from 26 November 2026 for a limited time only. Tickets are on sale now.
The filmed production captures Michael Harrison’s celebrated revival of the musical, which returned to London in June 2024 and has since become the capital’s longest-running revival of an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical in two decades.
Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, Starlight Express brings to life a child’s train set as competing locomotives race to become the fastest in the world. At the heart of the story is Rusty the Steam Train, who dreams of victory despite being dismissed by his rivals.
The revival introduced the new song Hydrogen, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe, and has gone on to win multiple awards, including an Olivier Award and a record-breaking seven WhatsOnStage Awards.
More than 30 million people worldwide have experienced Starlight Express since its original West End premiere in 1984, making it one of the most successful musicals ever created.
The stage production is directed by Luke Sheppard, with set design by Tim Hatley, costume design by Gabriella Slade, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Owen and choreography by Ashley Nottingham. Arlene Phillips returned as creative dramaturg for the revival.
The cinema release has been filmed in London by director Brett Sullivan and stars Jeevan Braich as Rusty, Jade Marvin as Momma McCoy, Olivia Ringrose as Greaseball, Asher Forth as Electra, Sophie Naglik as Pearl, Georgia Pemberton as Dinah and Jaydon Vijn as Hydra.
Audiences can expect the production’s signature combination of roller-skating spectacle, immersive staging and beloved songs including AC/DC, Make Up My Heart, Light at the End of the Tunnel and Starlight Express.
The announcement comes ahead of the musical’s planned world tour in 2027, further expanding the reach of the award-winning revival.
