Award-winning playwright Anna Ziegler’s acclaimed drama The Wanderers will receive its UK premiere at Marylebone Theatre this autumn, running from 17 October to 29 November 2025, with a press night on 22 October.

Directed by Igor Golyak, whose recent production of Our Class at BAM won four Lucille Lortel Awards, this new staging follows the play’s celebrated Off-Broadway run at the Laura Pels Theatre in 2023.

The Wanderers explores the lives of two couples across different worlds. Abe, a successful writer, is married to Sophie, a fellow author grappling with creative doubt. Their marriage is tested when Abe begins a flirtatious email exchange with a movie star.

In parallel, Esther and Schmuli, young Orthodox Jews in an arranged marriage, struggle with the constraints of their religious life. As Esther’s dissatisfaction grows, the stakes rise for her family and identity.

These intertwined narratives form a poignant meditation on love, faith, and the legacies we inherit.

The production will feature set design by Jan Pappelbaum, Head of Set Design at Berlin’s Schaubühne Theatre.

Anna Ziegler said, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring these five characters—each restless, each full of yearning—to wander in London under Igor Golyak’s inventive, poetic, and emotionally rigorous eye. I can’t wait to see their world unfold on his watch.”

Igor Golyak added, “Theatre, at its essence, is a quiet conversation with the soul, unravelling the delicate threads between tradition and change. In The Wanderers, we see the poetic tragedy of longing—beautiful, endless, and profoundly human.”

Ziegler is best known for Photograph 51, which starred Nicole Kidman in the West End and won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play. Her other works include Actually, Boy, and The Janeiad.

Full casting and creatives for The Wanderers will be announced soon.
