The Almeida Theatre has unveiled the production artwork for its forthcoming revival of Golden Boy, starring BAFTA winner Josh O’Connor.
Directed by Olivier Award winner Sam Yates, the Clifford Odets play will run at the Almeida from 8 September to 31 October 2026.
O’Connor will play Joe Bonaparte, a talented violinist in 1930s New York who is tempted away from music by the lure of success in the boxing ring.
Set during the Great Depression, Golden Boy explores ambition, identity and the personal cost of pursuing fame, as its central character is forced to choose between artistic integrity and financial security.
The production will feature a live string quartet, underscoring the tension between Joe’s musical gift and his brutal new career.
Golden Boy forms part of the Almeida’s upcoming season, which also includes Desire Under the Elms.
Booking will open in stages, with Almeida Patrons, Gold Friends and Friends Plus able to purchase tickets from Tuesday 23 June, followed by Almeida Friends on Thursday 25 June, and general sale opening on Tuesday 30 June.
