Earlier this year Audible made hundreds of audiobooks available for free with the launch of Audible Stories. More than 200 titles specially selected to entertain children – including Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone (read by Stephen Fry), Jane Eyre (read by Thandie Newton) and Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland (read by Scarlett Johansson) – are now available to stream, completely for free.
In addition to Audible Stories, Audible has been working on ways to keep adults entertained too. From today, Audible is making 12 Audible Theatre titles available, completely free for Audible members, available to download between now and 31st May 2020. Once downloaded, these titles will be yours to keep forever, even once the offer comes to an end.
Selected performances include Ambreen Razia’s critically acclaimed Diary Of A Hounslow Girl (“astonishing and engaging” – British Theatre), Al Smith’s Radio (“there are moments that’ll transport you, lift you up with the radio waves and take you to a different and more hopeful time” – The Guardian), The Half-Life Of Marie Curie starring Kate Mulgrew (Golden Globe-nominee, Emmy-nominee, Orange Is The New Black), An Act Of God starring Sean Hayes (Golden Globe-nominee, Emmy-winner, Will & Grace) and selection of some of the best plays from the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 amongst others.
Abigail Gonda, Audible UK’s Lead Theatre Producer, said: “Visiting the West End might be on hold for now, but in the meantime, we’re doing all we can to provide listeners with ways to enjoy some remarkable performances from home. These plays, curated from around the world, offer a brief moment of escape from the everyday. I do hope members enjoy listening to them as much as we’ve enjoyed making them.”
