VAULT Creative Arts has announced a brand-new Christmas production, The Girl from Wickton, which will run at the newly renamed Lower Marsh Arts Club in Waterloo from 25 November to 23 December.

Created by the award-winning team behind The Lost Library of Leake Street, the new show is written and directed by Oli Savage, winner of Best Innovation at the Off West End Awards.

Described as a fairy tale for adults, The Girl from Wickton follows sixteen-year-old Fia, who has spent her life in a town devoted to keeping darkness at bay through its famous winter candle festival.

As questions about her place in the annual celebration begin to grow, Fia is drawn towards the mysterious forest on the edge of town, setting her on an adventure through darkness, danger and discovery.

The production will feature an original live folk music score performed by a cast of four actor-musicians, with the Lower Marsh Arts Club transformed into the fictional world of Wickton for the festive season.

Alongside the production, audiences can enjoy a wider programme of emerging theatre and comedy, as well as seasonal social events, themed cocktails, mulled wine and mince pies.

Oli Savage, Artistic Director and CEO of VAULT Creative Arts and writer-director of The Girl from Wickton, said: “We’re so excited to be putting on this new play – which is bigger and more ambitious than anything we’ve ever mounted. We have an impossibly talented cast of four actor-musicians and will be transforming our theatre space into Wickton and beyond. The space will be filled with folk music and festive magic – and the show is an evergreen reminder that you can’t appreciate light without the dark. We can’t wait to share it with you.”

The production marks the culmination of a year of change for VAULT Creative Arts and its newly renamed venue, as the company continues to develop an ambitious programme of theatre and live events in the heart of Waterloo.

The Girl from Wickton opens for previews on 25 November, with a press night scheduled for 27 November.
