Back to Back Theatre bring their powerful production The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes to BAC this October.

Back to Back Theatre are current recipients of the prestigious Ibsen Award in Oslo. BAC are delighted to join forces with Leeds Playhouse and Brighton’s Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts to bring this highly regarded international company to the UK.

The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes celebrates our civil and social progress via a story of great sadness but ultimately, of hope. Weaving a narrative through human rights, sexual politics and the projected dominance of artificial intelligence, The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes is a sly theatrical revelation inspired by mistakes, mis-readings, mis-leadings and misunderstandings.

Based around a public meeting, the performance asks the question: How do we come together to make decisions that are in the best interest of a civic society? The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes is a reminder that none of us are self-sufficient and all of us are ultimately responsible.

Back to Back Theatre is driven by an ensemble who are perceived to have learning disabilities and are considered one of Australia’s most important cultural exports. The company creates new forms of contemporary performance imagined from the minds and experiences of a unique ensemble of actors with a disability – giving voice to social and political issues that speak to everyone.

Alongside the run, BAC will present an inclusive programme of events to engage artists and audiences in deeper reflection around the work and its themes. One will include a town hall meeting in BAC’s historic Town Hall space, reflecting both BAC’s history and the content of the performance.

This key UK tour forms part of UK/Australia Season – A new major cultural exchange between Australia and the United Kingdom via the British Council and the Australian Government.

The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes is at BAC 19 – 22 October 2022.  More information can be found here.
