The Old Joint Stock Theatre has announced the cast for its upcoming production of Be More Chill, marking the venue’s largest production to date.

Leading the cast is Tom Dickerson as Jeremy. Tom is currently touring with Dear Evan Hansen as Jared Kleinman and has also appeared in Heathers and The Book of Mormon.

Joining him is Broadway and Emmy-nominated Maya Jade Frank as Chloe. Maya’s credits include Mary Poppins and Evita on Broadway, Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark, and most recently Next to Normal in Los Angeles.

Jessica Lim plays Jenna (Dear Evan Hansen, Shrek UK Tour), Tommy Fouweather appears as Squip (I Am Harvey Milk), and Shannon Bourne takes on Christine (Stranger Sings!, Becoming Nancy).

Steven Rostance joins the cast as Mr Heere, with credits including The Play That Goes Wrong, The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, and Noises Off.

The production also introduces emerging talent: Jack Carr as Michael, John OG as Rich, Harry Chamberlain as Jake, and Ailsa Erskine as Brooke.

This production is a milestone for the venue as it will be the first under the Equity House Agreement, a significant step in supporting fair pay and professional standards in fringe theatre.

Artistic Director James Edge said:
“We are thrilled to be welcoming so many experienced performers and exciting newcomers to the venue for Be More Chill. Since the show was last performed technology has advanced so much with the likes of AI and ChatGBT and we look forward to incorporating that into this fresh new production. All I will say is make sure you stay for the after credits!”

Be More Chill has developed a cult following through its cast recordings and is now set to take Birmingham by storm.

The story follows Jeremy Heere, an average teenager who discovers “The Squip,” a tiny supercomputer that promises to make him cool. But popularity comes at a price.

Be More Chill is based on the novel by Ned Vizzini and has been a hit on both Broadway and the West End.
