The Black British Theatre Awards (BBTAs) have announced their 2025 nominees, ahead of the UK’s biggest celebration of Black talent in theatre, returning to the West End on Sunday 26 October at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Now in its seventh year, the BBTAs continue to honour excellence, representation, and the cultural contributions of Black artists across the UK. This year’s ceremony promises a vibrant evening of live performances, emotional tributes, and celebration.

Nominees for 2025 include Beverley Knight, Omari Douglas, and Johannes Radebe, recognised for their standout performances in productions such as Marie & Rosetta, This Bitter Earth, and Kinky Boots.

Musical Theatre is well represented, with nominations for Hamilton, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Disney’s The Lion King, MJ The Musical, and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.

Anne Odeke’s Princess Essex leads with four nominations, while Lynette Linton’s Alterations at the National Theatre also receives critical acclaim.

Behind the scenes, creatives such as Cassa Pancho’s Ballet Black are celebrated for choreography, musical direction, casting, and design.

Johannes Radebe’s nomination also highlights the BBTAs’ commitment to championing LGBTQIA+ talent in the industry.

Omari Douglas earns recognition for his role in This Bitter Earth, directed by Billy Porter, continuing his rise following It’s a Sin.
