Following a critically acclaimed, sold-out run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, CADEL: Lungs On Legs will transfer to London’s Underbelly Boulevard Soho for a one-night-only performance on Friday 12 September at 9pm.
Performed entirely on a racing bike, this epic theatrical feat of endurance stars Australian-born, New York-based actor Connor Delves, who pedals non-stop for an hour to portray the trials and triumphs of Cadel Evans – the only Australian to win the Tour de France.
The production features heart-pounding video footage of actual races and race commentary recreated by legendary sports presenter Phil Liggett, known as the ‘Voice of the Tour de France’.
Adding to the authenticity, Delves rides Cadel’s actual winning BMC bike from the 2011 Tour de France and wears the iconic yellow jersey.
After being hailed as “Best Show of the Fringe” by Theatre Weekly and receiving a slew of five-star reviews, CADEL: Lungs On Legs now brings all the grit, tears and glory of the world’s most challenging road race to the heart of the West End.
Connor Delves, who co-wrote the play with Steve McMahon, said:
“This play brings together my passion for cycling with my theatrical career. It’s a gripping ride through the sacrifices, heartaches, and sheer determination it takes to conquer cycling’s ultimate prize. The Fringe itself was a marathon of endurance – we sold out shows and because of demand we had to put on a second show each day over the final weekend so I spent 4 hours a day in the saddle! I’m now looking forward to bringing CADEL: Lungs on Legs to the heart of the West End for its London premiere.”
Cadel Evans himself is fully supportive of the production. He said:
“I have always been aware of the drama, thrill and often suspense of cycling, especially the Tour de France, really is. I’m thrilled to have been involved from the start, and I’m deeply honored that an Australian artist has been inspired to bring my story to life for audiences worldwide.”
Directed by Mark Barford, the production features sound and projection design by Nate Edmondson, lighting design by Mitchell Fenton, and assistant direction by Eva Sheehy-Moss, who also appears on stage. Bike mechanic and advisor Gary Delves ensures the physical demands of the role are met, with general management by Sterling Paris and Dan Blumenau.
Connor Delves, who last performed in London in Starcrossed at Wilton’s Music Hall, has trained extensively for the role with sponsors Wahoo Fitness, Prime Train and Eternal since January 2025.
