The cast has been announced for the UK tour of the European premiere of Dog Man: The Musical, based on Dav Pilkey’s hugely popular children’s books.
Following multiple sold-out Off-Broadway seasons and US tours, the production arrives in the UK this summer, opening at Leicester Curve before visiting venues across the country.
Vanessa Dumatey will play Flippy, with Sam Kipling as Petey, Peter Lavery as Harold, Ricardo Mendes as George, Rebecca-Jo Roberts as Li’l Petey and Renan Teadoro in the title role.
They are joined by Richener Bissereth, Shannon Bourne and Robert Wilkes, completing the company.
The tour includes a run at the Southbank Centre from 29 July to 16 August, with a press performance on 4 August at 2.30pm, alongside dates in Crewe, Southend, Hertford, Wolverhampton, Eastbourne, Darlington, Torquay, Halifax, Cambridge, Cardiff, Fareham and Wycombe.
Dog Man: The Musical features a book and lyrics by Kevin Del Aguila and music by Brad Alexander, with direction and choreography by Jen Wineman.
The musical is based on Pilkey’s internationally bestselling Dog Man series, which has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide and been translated into 48 languages.
The story follows best friends George and Harold as they attempt to create a musical about their favourite comic book hero, Dog Man, a crime-fighting character who is part dog, part policeman.
The creative team also includes scenic design by Timothy R. Mackabee, costume design by Heidi Leigh Hanson, lighting design by David Lander, sound design by Emma Wilk and orchestrations by Lloyd Kikoler.
Produced by Roast Productions in arrangement with TWTheatricals, the show builds on its successful Off-Broadway debut in 2019 and return season in New York in 2023.
