New production photography has been released for the European premiere of Dog Man: The Musical, offering audiences a first look at the stage adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s globally bestselling children’s book series.
Produced by Roast Productions and Tilted by special arrangement with TWTheatricals, the musical arrives in the UK following multiple sell-out Off-Broadway seasons and successful US tours. Based on Pilkey’s hugely popular Dog Man books, the production follows the success of the animated DreamWorks film released earlier this year.
Currently playing at Leicester Curve until 19 July, Dog Man: The Musical continues its UK tour before a summer run at Southbank Centre from 29 July to 16 August. The production will then visit venues across the UK including Crewe, Southend, Hertford, Wolverhampton, Eastbourne, Darlington, Torquay, Halifax, Cambridge, Cardiff, Fareham and High Wycombe.
Alongside the release of the new production images, the producers have also announced a further UK tour for 2027, with dates scheduled in Basingstoke, Malvern, Chester, Northampton, Edinburgh, Guildford, Blackpool, Canterbury, Southampton and Lichfield, with additional venues still to be revealed.
The musical features a book and lyrics by Kevin Del Aguila and music by Brad Alexander, while Jen Wineman directs and choreographs.
Since debuting in 2016, Pilkey’s Dog Man series has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide and been translated into 48 languages. Five titles are currently among Amazon UK’s top 50 bestselling children’s books.
The story follows best friends George and Harold, who decide to create a musical starring their favourite comic book hero. Dog Man, with the head of a dog and the body of a police officer, must battle villains including Petey the cat and Flippy the cyborg fish while George and Harold race to finish their show before lunchtime.
The cast includes Vanessa Dumatey, Sam Kipling, Peter Lavery, Ricardo Mendes, Rebecca-Jo Roberts and Renan Teodoro, with Richener Bissereth, Shannon Bourne and Robert Wilkes completing the company.
The original creative team also includes scenic designer Timothy R. Mackabee, costume designer Heidi Leigh Hanson, lighting designer David Lander, sound designer Emma Wilk and orchestrator Lloyd Kikoler. Paul Herbert serves as Musical Director for the European premiere, with Pearson Casting as Casting Director.
