Rehearsal photography has been released for the European premiere of Dog Man: The Musical, offering a first look at the production ahead of its major UK tour.
Based on Dav Pilkey’s hugely successful children’s book series, the musical has previously enjoyed multiple sell-out seasons Off-Broadway and across the United States.
The UK tour opens at Leicester Curve from 16 to 19 July, before visiting venues across the country including Crewe Lyceum, Southbank Centre, Southend Palace, Wolverhampton Grand and Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre.
A run at Southbank Centre takes place from 29 July to 16 August, with a press performance on 4 August at 2.30pm.
Described as a hilarious and heartfelt adventure, the show follows best friends George and Harold as they attempt to create a musical based on their favourite character, Dog Man.
With the head of a dog and the body of a policeman, Dog Man must battle villains including Petey the cat and Flippy the cyborg fish, while George and Harold race to finish their show.
The production features a book and lyrics by Kevin Del Aguila and music by Brad Alexander, with direction and choreography by Jen Wineman.
Casting includes Vanessa Dumatey, Sam Kipling, Peter Lavery, Ricardo Mendes, Rebecca-Jo Roberts and Renan Teodoro, alongside Richener Bissereth, Shannon Bourne and Robert Wilkes.
The creative team also includes scenic design by Timothy R. Mackabee, costume design by Heidi Leigh Hanson, lighting design by David Lander, sound design by Emma Wilk, and orchestrations by Lloyd Kikoler.
Originally produced by TheaterWorksUSA, Dog Man: The Musical premiered Off-Broadway in June 2019 and returned to New York in 2023 following popular demand.
