The cast has been announced for the world premiere of Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s new stage adaptation of The Turn of the Screw, directed by Nicky Allpress and opening at Arcola Theatre this autumn before embarking on a major UK tour.
Based on Henry James’ classic ghost story, the production follows a young governess who arrives at a remote country house to care for two children, only to find herself caught between supernatural terror and psychological uncertainty.
Leading the company is Amy Tara as the Governess, following acclaimed performances in Hamlet at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre and The Borrowers at The Dukes Theatre. She also appeared in the feature films Assassins Guild and Groupchat, earning the Best Actress award at the British Horror Festival 2025 for the latter.
Toby Benyon will play the dual role of Miles and Quint. Having previously worked with director Nicky Allpress on Marseille (Away), The Turn of the Screw marks his professional stage debut.
Joining them are Jim Fish as the Man/Master, Katy Slater as Mrs Grose, Kathleen McAuley Irvine as Flora/Jessel and Janita Mikkola as Ensemble. McAuley Irvine and Mikkola are both making their professional debuts following training at LAMDA.
The production reunites audiences with Olivier Award-winning playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, whose previous credits include Emilia, The Wasp and Dracula. Direction comes from Nicky Allpress, whose recent work includes The Shape of Things, Jobsworth and the 60th anniversary tour of Oh What A Lovely War.
The creative team also includes Oliver McNally as Lighting Designer, Matthew Cassar as Set and Costume Designer, Hattie North as Sound Designer, Wayne Fox as Illusionist, Mandy Gordon as Intimacy and Movement Director, and Emma Wilkinson as Assistant Director.
The production runs at Arcola Theatre from 11 September to 10 October 2026, with a press night on 18 September, before continuing on a nationwide tour.
