The full cast has been announced for a new stage adaptation of Quartet in Autumn, which will play at the Arcola Theatre in London from 7 May to 13 June 2026.

Based on Barbara Pym’s Booker Prize-nominated novel, the production marks the first time Pym’s work has been adapted for the theatre.

The world premiere is adapted by 2024 Booker Prize winner Samantha Harvey and directed by Dominic Dromgoole, former Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe and the Bush Theatre.

The cast includes Anthony Calf, Kate Duchêne, Pooky Quesnel and Paul Rider.

Samantha Harvey makes her stage writing debut with the adaptation, following the recent success of her novel Orbital.

Quartet in Autumn is a wry and poignant meditation on ageing, friendship and solitude, following the lives of four London office workers navigating later life.

Barbara Pym is celebrated for her sharp observation, wit and social commentary, and has long been regarded as one of the great novelists of the twentieth century.

The creative team includes designer Ellie Wintour, lighting designer Skylar Turnbull Hurd and sound designer Ella Wahlström.

The production is produced by Arcola Theatre with Rachel Edwards as associate producer.

Press night will take place on Wednesday 20 May.
