The UK premiere of Seagull: True Story will open at Marylebone Theatre this autumn, following a sold-out Off-Broadway run at LA MAMA.
Created and directed by BAFTA Award-winning Alexander Molochnikov, the production blends biting satire and autobiographical drama with Chekhovian themes. Molochnikov, a critic of Putin’s regime who fled Russia at the outbreak of war, presents a politically charged retelling of his attempt to stage The Seagull.
The cast is led by multi award-winning Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė as Olga. Known for her roles in Burnt by the Sun, Seven Years in Tibet, Mission Impossible, and Hannibal Rising, Dapkūnaitė has also performed at The Old Vic, Shaftesbury Theatre, and Hampstead Theatre.
Joining her is Daniel Boyd as Kon, whose credits include Farm Hall (Theatre Royal Haymarket), Oppenheimer (RSC & West End), and House of the Dragon (HBO).
Returning from the New York run are celebrated Russian actor-in-exile Andrey Burkovskiy (Our Class, The Dybbuk: Between Two Worlds) as MC & Barry, and Quentin Lee Moore (Do You Roll Over in the Night, Stepping Through Blood, Black, White and Blue) as Ivan & Jack.
Also starring are Elan Zafir (Your Friends & Neighbors, Henry IV, Merchant of Venice) and Stella Baker (Patriots, Republic of Sarah, Tell Me Your Secrets) as Anton and Sorry.
Keshet Pratt, Ohad Mazor, and Myles McCabe III reprise their roles from the New York production as Pickle, Dmitri, and Sasha respectively.
Molochnikov said, “This is a provocative and poignant show about fighting against censorship, seeking creative freedom, survival, and the power of live performance in the face of oppression.”
The creative team includes writer Eli Rarey, set designer Alexander Shishkin, lighting designer Alex Musgrave, sound designer Julian Starr, costume designer Kristina Kharlashkina, and choreographer Ohad Mazor. Music is composed by Fedor Zhuravlev with lyrics by Noize MC.
Presented by MART Foundation and Wild Yak, Seagull: True Story runs from 5 September to 12 October 2025 at Marylebone Theatre, with press night on Tuesday 9 September.
