Mad Friday Productions has revealed the cast for its exhilarating drama Children of the Night, which tours the UK from February to March 2026. The production invites audiences to relive the euphoria and chaos of Northern England in the 1990s, with stops in Doncaster, Salford, Hull and Birmingham before a London run at Southwark Playhouse Borough.
Shortlisted for the 2023 Women’s Prize for Playwriting and the 2024 New Diorama Untapped Award, the play stars writer and company co-founder Danielle Phillips as Lindsay. Phillips’ previous credits include The Merry Wives of Windsor and The Comedy of Errors at Shakespeare’s Globe, The Upstart Crow in the West End, and Trying It On at the RSC and Royal Court.
She is joined by Gareth Radcliffe (War Horse, UK Tour; Oliver Twist, International Tour; King Lear, International Tour) as Terry, and Charlotte Brown (The Lost Lionesses, UK Tour; Coronation Street, ITV) as Jen.
Luke Broughton reprises his role as DJ Don, alongside a vocal ensemble of local community actors. The play is described as a love letter to the working-class cultural pulse of the North, blending kitchen-sink drama with spoken word and dance floor euphoria. It follows Lindsay Jenkins, a young woman navigating sexual health, grief and ambition across three summers on Doncaster’s relentless dancefloor.
The production is led by producer Lauren Yvonne Townsend, with Kimberley Sykes as Director and Dramaturg. Set and costume design comes from Hannah Sibai, lighting by Jessie Addinall, and sound design and composition by Ben McQuigg. Movement direction is by Jennifer Kay, with dramaturgy from Stephanie Dale and casting by Ellie Collyer-Bristow.
Developed using testimonies from over 30 local Doncaster residents, Children of the Night celebrates resilience, female friendships and the importance of nightlife within local communities.
