The cast is announced for he world premiere of The Inseparables by Grace Joy Howarth, based on the recently rediscovered novel by Simone de Beauvoir, which opens at the multi-award-winning Finborough Theatre for a four-week limited season on Tuesday, 15 April 2025. Press nights are scheduled for Thursday, 17 April 2025, and Friday, 18 April 2025, at 7.30pm.

Set in France during the First World War, The Inseparables follows nine-year-old Sylvie Lapage, who prays for France to be saved from the war. Her miracle arrives in the form of Andrée, a new girl at school who is wildly bright and full of life. As the girls become inseparable, they battle against the strictness of their sheltered Catholic bourgeois upbringing. The play poignantly explores their intimate friendship and the pressures of becoming young women.

The Inseparables tells the true story of a friendship that shaped one of the most important thinkers and feminists of the 20th century. Written five years after The Second Sex, the novella was never published during Simone de Beauvoir’s lifetime. Finally published in 2020, it was critically acclaimed as a rediscovered classic and is now adapted for the theatre for the first time.

The production is directed by Anastasia Bunce, with design by Hazel Poole Zane, lighting design by Abraham Walkling-Lea, sound design by Flick Isaac Chilton, movement direction by Daniela Poch, video design by Wilfred Wong, and intimacy coordination by Justin Stirewalt.
