The Arcola Theatre and Nick of Time Productions have announced casting for Ukraine Unbroken, a compelling cycle of short plays conceived and directed by Nicolas Kent. The production runs in Studio 1 at the Arcola Theatre from 26 February to 28 March 2026.

The ensemble cast includes Daniel Betts (To Kill A Mockingbird), Ian Bonar (Retrograde), Clare Holman (Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf – Olivier Award-nominated), David Michaels (The 39 Steps), Clara Read (Matilda The Musical), and Jade Williams (The Father). Each actor will take on multiple roles across the five plays.

Ukraine Unbroken charts twelve turbulent years of modern Ukrainian history, from the Maidan protests of 2014 to Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 and beyond. Written by acclaimed British and Ukrainian playwrights David Edgar, Cat Goscovitch, David Greig, Jonathan Myerson and Natalka Vorozhbit, and translated by Sasha Dugdale, the plays explore resilience, courage and survival in the face of tyranny.

Performed with live Ukrainian music from Mariia Petrovska on the bandura and interwoven with headlines and voices from the front line, the production offers a powerful portrait of resistance and strength.

The five plays include Jonathan Myerson’s Always, David Edgar’s Five Day War, Natalka Vorozhbit’s Three Mates, David Greig’s Wretched Things, and Cat Goscovitch’s Taken.
