Casting has been announced for A to B, a new coming-of-age love story set against a Caribbean South London soundtrack, ahead of its world premiere at Soho Theatre this summer.

Produced by JFR Productions in association with Soho Theatre and HighTide Theatre, the production runs at Soho Theatre Upstairs from Friday 12 June to Friday 3 July 2026, with a press night on Wednesday 17 June.

Written by up-and-coming British playwright Tia-Renee Mullings, A to B blends comedy and romance to explore connection, visibility and young love in a world that refuses to run smoothly.

The play follows Amani and Brianna as they prepare for a blind date, discovering that getting there is far more complicated than expected.

Between teefing sisters, gentrified patties, flying bird poo and a missing barber, the journey becomes a test of resilience as much as romance.

The two-hander will star Sheyi Cole and Zakiyyah Deen, both making their Soho Theatre debuts in the production.

Sheyi Cole’s previous credits include Small Axe for the BBC and Lord of the Flies at Chichester Festival Theatre, while Zakiyyah Deen has appeared in Enterprice and Small Axe for the BBC.

The production is directed by Ewa Dina, winner of the JMK Award 2026, whose work includes The Welsh Dragon and The Kola Nut Does Not Speak English.

Artistic Director and CEO of HighTide, Titilola Dawudu, said, “We’re proud to be supporting Tia-Renee and her debut play A to B. From the moment I watched the sharing, I knew her voice and storytelling were something I wanted to get behind.”

Playwright Tia-Renee Mullings said, “I wrote A to B out of a desire for more Black British love stories and my love for spoken word. The play is about two people trying to find love and each other in a world that keeps getting in the way, but it’s also my love letter to South London and to the textures of British-Jamaican life and community that coloured my upbringing.”

She added, “In today’s social media-dominated (dating) landscape, where so much of how we’re seen is curated and controlled, the play is really a poetic exploration of what it means to be seen and loved as a young Black person.”

Director of JFR Productions Jasmyn Fisher-Ryner said, “It’s a privilege to be producing TiaRenee’s debut play A To B! I remember watching it in Edinburgh 2026 as part of the Shedinburgh plays chosen by Francesca Moody Productions and being in awe of the writing.”

She continued, “The play is so poetic and beautifully captures black British Caribbean culture. Tia-Renee is so authentic and unapologetic in her writing, I can’t wait to see her career continue to blossom.”
