Guildford Shakespeare Company will return to New York this summer with its feel‑good, high‑energy staging of David Copperfield, running from 29 May to 28 June 2026 at 59E59 Theaters.

Following a sold‑out New York debut in 2025 with Pride & Prejudice, the company has been invited back with its latest production, a lively three‑actor retelling of Dickens’ most autobiographical novel.

Premiering at London’s Jermyn Street Theatre in December before touring Windsor, Ipswich and Guildford, the production sees three performers embody more than twenty characters, conjuring a full Victorian world from suitcases, hats, puppetry and plenty of comic invention.

The creative team reunites adapter and director Abigail Pickard Price with producers and co‑founders Sarah Gobran and Matt Pinches. The cast features Eddy Payne as David Copperfield, with Luke Barton and Louise Beresford bringing to life the many figures who surround him.

GSC co‑founder and Producer for David Copperfield Sarah Gobran comments, “It’s so exciting to have a second show performing consecutively as part of the Brits Off Broadway season in New York, especially in our 20th Anniversary Year. Pride & Prejudice was so well received out there last year, and it was a real delight to perform to 59E59 Theaters’ audiences, who were so warm and receptive. I just know that they are going to love David Copperfield as much and can’t wait to be out there again to watch the initial response.”

Critics have praised the production, with The Guardian calling it “Delightful dollops of mischief and invention comic eccentricity”, The Times noting “Ensemble playing doesn’t come much sharper than this”, and The New York Stage Review describing it as “A feast of theatricality”.
