The Talented Mr Ripley will embark on its first-ever UK tour this autumn, with Ed McVey and Maisie Smith leading the cast as Tom Ripley and Marge respectively.

The tour opens at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, on 4 September, with an official opening night on 10 September.

Ed McVey, known for his breakout role as Prince William in The Crown, will take on the role of the enigmatic Tom Ripley. Maisie Smith, beloved for her long-running role in EastEnders and as a Strictly Come Dancing finalist, will play Marge.

Ed and Maisie will appear in the production until the end of 2025. Further casting is yet to be announced.

2025 marks the 70th anniversary of Patricia Highsmith’s iconic psychological thriller, which has inspired numerous adaptations including the 2000 Oscar-nominated film and the recent Netflix series.

Ed McVey’s performance in The Crown was widely praised, with Radio Times stating, “McVey is up to the challenge, proving to be a captivating screen presence and impressive at capturing the essence of the young prince.”

Maisie Smith’s career spans screen and stage, with accolades including ‘Best Dramatic Performance from a Young Actor’ at the British Soap Awards and a Stage Debut Award nomination for her role in Strictly Ballroom The Musical.

The Talented Mr Ripley is a The Faction production, adapted and directed by Mark Leipacher. The creative team includes Holly Piggott (set and costume design), Ellen Farrell (associate design), Zeynep Kepekli (lighting), Max Pappenheim (sound), and Marc Frankum CDG (casting).

“I never wanted to murder anyone. It was necessary.”

Set in 1950s Italy, The Talented Mr Ripley follows Tom Ripley, a man who seizes a chance to escape his mundane life by impersonating another. What begins as a simple task spirals into obsession, deception, and murder.

This new stage adaptation promises razor-sharp dialogue, psychological intensity, and a chillingly charismatic antihero.

The Talented Mr Ripley is produced by Jack Maple and Thomas Hopkins, with SAMS Entertainment, Carl Moellenberg, Bryan McCaffrey, Jana Robbins, Kohl Beck & Jonathan Kaldor, and Melissa & Bradford Coolidge, Cason Crane & Dennis Trunfio.
