Blending comedy, science, and interactive storytelling, A.L.Ex and the ImproBots: How To Train Your Robot is a joyful, family-friendly tech theatre experience where kids help teach a robot how to be funny. Running at Gilded Balloon (The Nip) from 30 July to 17 August at 11:40, this imaginative hour of live performance is part of the ImproBotics Kids! programme.

Created by ImproBotics Kids and directed by Boyd Branch, the show follows A.L.Ex, a humanoid robot powered by advanced speech recognition and custom-built AI, as he embarks on a mission to become the galaxy’s funniest bot. With help from the audience and a team of human performers, A.L.Ex learns the art of comedy through games, improvisation, and real-time filmmaking. Children are invited on stage to co-create a short film using greenscreens, silly costumes, and audience-generated scripts.

The show is part-scripted, part-improvised, and fully interactive—designed to spark curiosity about AI while celebrating creativity and collaboration. It’s a playful introduction to technology that encourages kids to think critically and imaginatively about the digital world.
