BELLY comes to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe following its world premiere in New York, offering an unflinching exploration of body image, grief and womanhood across generations.

Written and performed by Reilly O’Shaughnessy, the play interweaves the lives of three women from the same family: a teenage swimmer facing pressure around food and performance, a pregnant woman navigating wellness culture, and a grieving widow learning to live with loss. Through these intersecting narratives, BELLY examines how expectations around women’s bodies are shaped and passed down.

The show moves fluidly between sharply observed storytelling and more poetic sequences, balancing humour with moments of raw honesty. Drawing on lived experience, O’Shaughnessy highlights the everyday negotiations, contradictions and resilience that sit at the centre of these relationships.

Directed by Juliet Kapanjie, the production blends simplicity with emotional clarity, creating space for audiences to reflect on the societal pressures that influence how we see ourselves and each other.

BELLY runs at Greenside @ George Street from 07 – 29 August at 13:45. Tickets are on sale here
