Maryam Garad’s REPARATIONS arrives at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as a bold and biting one-woman dark comedy exploring identity, class and the cost of reinvention.
The story follows Aisha, newly released from prison and determined to rebuild her life. As she sets out on a path of self-healing and transformation, a chance encounter draws her into a world of wealth and status that feels just out of reach. What begins as admiration soon turns into obsession.
Set across contrasting environments from London estates to influencer penthouses, the play charts Aisha’s journey from invisibility into a life she believes she deserves. As she begins to blur the boundaries between truth and deception, she finds herself not just taking objects, but attempting to claim an entirely new identity.
Blending sharp humour with psychological tension, REPARATIONS confronts questions of social mobility, jealousy and belonging. It challenges the idea that success is available to all, exposing the emotional and moral compromises required to seize it.
Raw, provocative and darkly funny, the production invites audiences into Aisha’s world, making them complicit in her choices as she fights to be seen on her own terms.
REPARATIONS runs at Pleasance Courtyard (Above) from 5 – 30 August at 14:00. Tickets are on sale here
