Edinburgh Fringe Review: Red Like Fruit at Traverse Theatre

Inspired by a deeply personal and politically charged true story, RIFT makes its UK premiere at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Presented by Luna Stage and Richard Jordan Productions in association with the Traverse Theatre, this gripping new play runs from 31 July to 24 August (excluding 4, 11, and 18 August) at Traverse 2.

Written by Gabriel Jason Dean and directed by Ari Laura Kreith, RIFT explores the fractured relationship between two brothers—one a progressive novelist, the other a convicted murderer and high-ranking member of a white supremacist prison gang. Based on Dean’s own life, the play asks: “Is it possible to love someone whose beliefs you hate?”

Performed by Matt Monaco and Blake Stadnik, RIFT is a raw, honest, and urgent examination of race, power, and ideological division in contemporary America. Following a sell-out North American premiere, this semi-autobiographical drama arrives in Edinburgh with critical acclaim and emotional resonance.
