SUCCUBUS, a new solo horror-comedy from Halfway Productions, premieres at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, blending theatrical storytelling with burlesque and dark humour.
Written and performed by Georgina Collins, also known as Strawberry Duvall, the show began as an exploration of her own experiences navigating unexplained health symptoms. It has since developed into a bold and irreverent piece examining the monstrous feminine, sexuality and power.
The story follows a young woman dismissed by doctors as “hormonal” who begins to experience increasingly unsettling changes. As her appetite grows in unexpected ways, she attempts to navigate a path of ethical consumption in a chaotic world, discovering she is not alone.
Collins described the origins of the piece: “What began as a satire of medical misogyny has now grown into a dark comedy centred around a female demon… I hope I can make audiences feel not so alone with their ‘monstrous’ side.”
Directed by Grainne Robson, SUCCUBUS combines gore, pop culture parody and sharp humour to create a distinctive Fringe debut. The production builds on Halfway Productions’ previous success, including their sold-out Camden Fringe hit The Publicist.
With its mix of horror and comedy, SUCCUBUS promises a provocative and entertaining addition to this year’s programme.
SUCCUBUS runs at Underbelly Bristo Square from 5 – 16 August at 16:15. Tickets are on sale here
