A dark and fast-paced new comedy, Tap Out! (Or I’ll hit you again) explores masculinity, loneliness and the desperate search for connection in the modern world. Written and directed by Conor Dye, this high-energy debut centres on a man who begins picking fights with strangers simply to feel something.

Unable to articulate what is missing from his life, the unnamed protagonist turns to violence as a substitute for emotional expression. What starts as a private compulsion quickly spirals, as his behaviour gains attention and feeds an insatiable need for validation.

Starring Matt Ackerman, the play examines the pressures of modern masculinity and the consequences of suppressing emotion. Blending sharp humour with uncomfortable truths, it confronts themes of mental health, digital culture and the human need for connection.

Dye describes the piece as an exploration of what happens when someone cannot ask for help, instead seeking meaning through destructive behaviour. With its blend of absurdity and raw honesty, Tap Out! offers a striking and thought-provoking Fringe experience.

Tap Out! (Or I’ll hit you again) runs at Gilded Balloon Patter House (The Coorie) from 5 – 31 August at 18:20. Tickets are on sale here
