Women of Will arrives at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, offering a fresh exploration of Shakespeare’s female characters through an unexpected meeting of minds.
Written by Siofra Dromgoole and directed by Michelle Joyner, the play follows two strangers who strike up a connection in a pub. As their conversations deepen, they begin to unpack the evolution of women across Shakespeare’s works, bringing key characters to life through performance and debate.
As the pair navigate their own personal challenges, their shared passion for the material opens up new ways of understanding both the plays and themselves. With one facing an important audition and the other finding renewed purpose, the production blends storytelling with classic text to examine identity, ambition and connection.
Ella Loudon said, “Exploring Shakespeare’s characters… takes away the binaries of good and bad, tragedy and drama… Women of Will is every bit as vibrant.”
Women of Will runs at Summerhall from 18 – 31 August at 18:00. Tickets are on sale here
