Scilly Isles, shortly after WWI. Edward, a fisherman haunted by the war, comes across a mysterious, semi-unconscious girl floating on the morning water, singing in a language unknown to him and brings her ashore. Upon discovery, he soon learns that she isn’t from Scilly, the mainland or from this world at all, but a mermaid named Annwn. An unbreakable bond forms between them and their fondness for one another deepens with each passing day. However, there is a growing sense of unease as reports of local people going missing from the Islands slowly begin to emerge…
Writer and performer Jonathan Blakeley was born and raised in Southend-on-Sea and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts NYC, graduating in 2010. Theatre credits include The Mousetrap (St Martin’s Lane Theatre) and King Lear (Olivier Theatre, National Theatre). This will be his Edinburgh Fringe debut as a writer and actor.
Joining him onstage in her Edinburgh Fringe debut also is Adriana Llabrés, born and raised in Mexico City, and also studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts NYC. She has received the Best Supporting Actress Award ACPT for her work as Honey in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.
In Pursuit of Andromeda will be directed by Lisa Milinazzo. She is a 2018 Alan Schneider Directing award nominee, and her directing credits include: Caryl Churchhill’s Love and Information, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she’s been a guest director for 16 years. She also directed the world premiere of Miracles Lost and Found, DCTV Firehouse, Tribeca, NYC, and the American premiere of The Collector at 59E59th Street, NYC, as well as the world premiere of the award winning production of her play Slain In The Spirit at the Midtown International Theatre Festival, NYC.
