Elizabeth Dulau and Owen Teale will star in the world premiere of Bird Grove, a new play by Olivier Award-winning playwright Alexi Kaye Campbell. Directed by Anna Ledwich, the production runs at Hampstead Theatre from 13 February to 21 March 2026, with press night on Monday 23 February.

Bird Grove explores the formative years of Mary Ann Evans, later known as George Eliot, and her struggle for independence against the expectations of Victorian society.

The year is 1841, and Mary Ann’s father, Robert Evans, has moved her to Bird Grove House to secure a suitable husband. But Mary Ann’s intellect and progressive ideas challenge her father’s beliefs, setting her on a path to defy convention and become one of England’s greatest writers.

Elizabeth Dulau, best known for her role in the Emmy-winning Star Wars series Andor, plays Mary Ann Evans. Owen Teale, Tony Award winner and Game of Thrones star, takes on the role of Robert Evans.

Joining them are Jonnie Broadbent, Jolyon Coy, Tom Espiner, Rebecca Scroggs, James Staddon and Sarah Woodward.
