The full cast has been announced for the world premiere stage adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House, adapted by Olivier and BAFTA Award-winning writer Stef Smith.
Directed by Martin Constantine, the production will star Jasper Britton as Dr Montague, Jemma Churchill as Mrs Montague, Sian Howard as Mrs Dudley, Sophie Lenglinger as Theo, Robin Morrissey as Luke and Clancy Ryan as Eleanor.
The new adaptation opens at Salisbury Playhouse on 11 September before heading to Richmond Theatre and embarking on a UK tour, with performances at Theatr Clwyd, Theatre Royal Brighton, Palace Theatre Manchester, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Royal Lyceum Theatre and Cambridge Arts Theatre.
Stef Smith said: “Shirley Jackson created one of the greatest haunted house stories ever written, and it’s an absolute honour to adapt it for the stage. I’m so excited by this cast, whose talent, sensitivity and imagination will breathe new life into these characters. I can’t wait for audiences to experience The Haunting of Hill House in a completely new way.”
Widely regarded as one of the finest works of supernatural fiction ever written, Jackson’s novel inspired the acclaimed Netflix series and remains one of the most influential ghost stories in literary history.
The story follows a group of investigators who arrive at the infamous Hill House to explore its mysteries. As their experiments deepen, strange disturbances begin to ripple through its corridors, blurring the boundaries between reality and the supernatural.
The production is presented by Mark Puddle with Alexander “Sandy” Marshall and Patrick Myles, and is a Wiltshire Creative production in association with Theatr Clwyd.
The creative team includes designer Ti Green, lighting designer Chris Davey, sound designer Johnny Edwards, composer Harry Blake, video designer Duncan McLean, illusion designer Will Houstoun, movement director Georgina Lamb and associate director Bobbie-Jean Henning.
Recommended for ages 12+, The Haunting of Hill House runs from 11 September to 21 November 2026, with the press night taking place at Richmond Theatre on 8 October.
