First-look images have been released of RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Danny Beard as the legendary Lily Savage in the new comedy-drama SAVAGE.
Written by multi-award-winning writer Jonathan Harvey, whose credits include Gimme Gimme Gimme, Coronation Street and Beautiful Thing, the new production will receive its world premiere at Curve Leicester on 13 February 2027 before embarking on a UK tour ahead of a planned West End run.
Inspired by the life of Paul O’Grady and created with his blessing, SAVAGE tells the story behind the creation of Lily Savage, charting O’Grady’s journey from his working-class roots in Birkenhead to becoming one of Britain’s most beloved entertainers.
The production follows Paul as he arrives in London and begins carving out a place for himself within the city’s club scene. Armed with determination, sharp wit and a wig, he creates the fearless alter ego who would go on to captivate audiences across the country.
Combining humour, heart and raw honesty, SAVAGE explores both the man and the character behind one of the most iconic figures in British entertainment.
Directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, the production promises an intimate portrait of a singular talent and the world that shaped him. Further casting and creative team announcements are expected.
Danny Beard, who rose to national prominence after winning RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, leads the production as Lily Savage.
SAVAGE is a co-production between ROYO, Curve, Hope Mill Theatre and Eilene Davidson.
