Sheffield Theatres have unveiled a first look image for their upcoming festive production of A Christmas Carol, opening at the Crucible Theatre on Saturday 29 November and running until Saturday 10 January.

Directed by Elin Schofield and adapted by Aisha Khan, this new version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale is deeply rooted in Sheffield’s heritage, incorporating the city’s unique tradition of the Sheffield Carols.

The cast includes Ian Midlane as Ebenezer Scrooge, with Aaron Anthony playing Fred, Edward and other roles. Kimberly Blake takes on Mrs Cratchit, Young Ebenezer’s Mother, Laundress and more, while Lucy Brindle plays Isobel and Charwoman.

Nitai Levi appears as the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Adam Price as the Ghost of Christmas Present. Anthony Ofoegbu plays Jacob Marley, and Ryan O’Donnell performs as Bob Cratchit and Young Ebenezer.

Mel Lowe returns to Sheffield Theatres as Jack, alongside Kiah Lindsay, making their professional debut. Simon Whitaker and Karen Wilkinson perform as Swings, with Whitaker also serving as Music Captain.

The production also features a young company of twelve performers, appearing in rotating groups of four throughout the run.

Aaron Anthony and Mel Lowe return following performances in A Doll’s House at the Crucible in 2024. Lowe and Wilkinson also appeared in Standing at the Sky’s Edge at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.

Ryan O’Donnell returns nearly 20 years after his professional debut in Shadow Mouth at the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse. Anthony Ofoegbu and Adam Price also return following acclaimed performances in Barbershop Chronicles and Standing at the Sky’s Edge, respectively.

All other cast members make their Sheffield Theatres debut in A Christmas Carol.

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”

On a bitter Christmas Eve, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge shuns festive cheer and human kindness, content in his cold, solitary world.

But when the ghost of his former partner warns of a dreadful fate, Scrooge is thrust into a journey through his past, present, and future. As the spirits reveal the consequences of his ways, he must decide whether to embrace change or be doomed to loneliness forever.
