Sonia Friedman Productions has released first look production images for the highly anticipated revival of Mrs. Warren’s Profession, now in previews at London’s Garrick Theatre.
Directed by Dominic Cooke, this bold new staging of Bernard Shaw’s incendiary classic stars five-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton alongside her real-life daughter Bessie Carter.
The production also features Kevin Doyle, Robert Glenister, Reuben Joseph and Sid Sagar, and officially opens on 22 May.
Newly released images, captured by Johan Persson, offer a glimpse into the world of Vivie Warren — a fiercely independent woman determined to forge a legal career in a male-dominated society.
“I am my mother’s daughter. I am like you. But my work is not your work, and my way is not your way.”
Vivie’s estranged mother, Mrs. Warren, has funded her daughter’s education through means that challenge Victorian morality — a theme that led to the play being banned for 30 years after it was written in 1893.
This production reunites Staunton and Cooke following their acclaimed collaborations on Hello, Dolly! and Good, and marks the first time Staunton and Carter have shared the stage.
Also announced today is the release of £30 tickets for those aged 30 and under, available throughout the run as part of SFP’s commitment to accessibility in the arts.
