Orange Tree Theatre has released the first production images for its new staging of Terence Rattigan’s In Praise of Love, offering a glimpse into the emotionally charged revival running from 24 May to 5 July.

Captured by photographer Ellie Kurttz, the images showcase Claire Price, Daniel Abelson, Dominic Rowan, and Joe Edgar in key moments from the play, directed by Amelia Sears.

Set in 1973 England, In Praise of Love explores the fragile truths within a marriage shaped by wartime secrets. Estonian refugee Lydia and her husband Sebastian, a Marxist literary critic, both former intelligence operatives, find their carefully constructed world unraveling with the arrival of Lydia’s admirer, a best-selling American author.

“Honesty between people who love each other is the thing that matters least in this life.”

The production features design by Peter Butler, lighting by Bethany Gupwell, sound and composition by Elizabeth Purnell, and casting by Helena Palmer CDG. Pam Nichol serves as Production Manager.

Review: Black Comedy at Orange Tree Theatre

Loosely inspired by the relationship between Rex Harrison and Kay Kendall, In Praise of Love is Rattigan’s penultimate play and a rare opportunity to experience one of his most haunting and provocative works.

Orange Tree audiences have previously embraced Rattigan’s French Without Tears and While the Sun Shines, and this latest production promises to be just as compelling.
