Birmingham Rep has unveiled new production images for the world premiere of Sherlock Holmes and The Twelve Days of Christmas, a festive play with songs written by Humphrey Ker and David Reed, featuring original music by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The production opens with a press night on Thursday 20 November and runs until 18 January 2026.
Humphrey Ker and David Reed star as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. They are joined by John Kearns as Lestrade, Margaret Cabourn-Smith as Mrs Hudson, Christian Andrews as Fafner, Susan Harrison as Ernie, Cameron Johnson as Arthur Stone, Amanda Lindgren and Mia Overfield in the Chorus, Andrew Pugsley as Wotan, Chomba S Taulo in the Chorus, Deborah Tracey as Queen Victoria, and Helena Wilson as Athena Faversham.
Directed by Phillip Breen with Becky Hope-Palmer, the creative team includes Mark Bailey (Designer), Anna Watson (Lighting Designer), John Rigby (Musical Supervision), Christopher Mundy (Musical Direction), Georgina Lamb (Movement), Renny Krupinski (Fights), Chris Fisher and Will Houston (Illusions), and Helena Palmer (Casting).
“It’s wonderful to be working together again on something so unashamedly fun,” said Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. “Sherlock Holmes and The Twelve Days of Christmas is pure mischief. It has the exuberance of a Christmas tree, the joy of a panto and a plot worthy of Conan Doyle.”
Humphrey Ker and David Reed added: “Huge thanks to Birmingham Rep for letting us show everybody what we’ve been cooking up with Sherlock Holmes and The Twelve Days of Christmas – without a doubt our biggest, daftest and most riotous show yet.”
Set in Victorian London, the play follows Sherlock Holmes as he races to solve a series of mysterious deaths linked to the classic carol The Twelve Days of Christmas. Expect festive cheer, musical mayhem, and a laugh-out-loud whodunnit for audiences aged 10 to 110.
