Pitlochry Festival Theatre have today released a first look at the production images for their production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical The Sound of Music.

The production images feature cast members Kirsty Findlay (Maria Rainer); Ali Watt (Captain Georg von Trapp); Christian Edwards (Max Detweiler); Hannah Baker (Elsa Schraeder/Nun); Angela Caesar (Frau Schmidt/Sister Berthe); Sally Cheng (Liesl von Trapp/Nun); Lee Drage (Franz/opera singer); Elliot Gooch (Rolf Gruber); Kate Milner – Evans (Mother Abbess); Matthew James Hinchliffe (Herr Zeller); Ellen Lawford (Baroness Elberfeld/Sister Sophia); Lydia Barton Lovett (Sister Margaretta); Jack Ward (Admiral Von Schreiber/Baron Elberfeld/Lieutenant) and Trudy Ward (Ursula/Fraulein Schweiger/Postulant/Nun).

The roles of the von Trapp children will be shared by Benjamin Barenco, Isla MacGregor, Ross Martin, Ailsa Marx, Lily McSherry, Joseph Miranda, Theo Miranda, Millie Nicolson, Tanvi Reddy, Leva Stewart, Martha Swain, and Callie Wilson.

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including Climb Ev’ry Mountain, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulant who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Directed by Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s Artistic Director Elizabeth Newman, The Sound of Music runs at Pitlochry Festival Theatre until 22 December 2024.
