Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s acclaimed production of Sunshine on Leith is set to return to the Theatre in the Hills from 25 July to 27 September 2025.

Written by Stephen Greenhorn and featuring the iconic songs of The Proclaimers, Sunshine on Leith follows the emotional journey of Davy and Ally as they return from military service to face the complexities of civilian life, love, and identity.

Audiences can expect to hear beloved hits including I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), Letter from America, and the heartfelt title track Sunshine on Leith.

Originally staged at Dundee Rep in 2007 and later adapted into a hit 2013 film, the musical has become a cherished part of Scottish theatre.

This revival is directed by Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s Associate Director Ben Occhipinti, with musical direction by Richard Reeday and original musical arrangements by David Shrubsole.

The cast includes Alexander Service as Davy, Tyler Collins as Ally, Fiona Wood as Liz, April Nerissa Hudson as Yvonne, Leah Jamieson as Eilidh, Caitlin Forbes as Hazel, Keith Macpherson as Rab, and Alyson Orr as Jean.

Also joining the ensemble are Celeste Collier, Chris Coxon, Stephanie Cremona, Jerome Lincoln, David Rankine, and newcomer Louis Newman.

Playwright Stephen Greenhorn shared his excitement about the production’s return:

“I’m very excited to see Sunshine on Leith return to Pitlochry this summer. It has been a joy over the past few years to watch the show build such a great relationship with the theatre and with the fantastic audiences there. Each fresh incarnation feels a little different and seems to bring out different aspects of the show as casts and contexts change. With a mix of new and familiar faces I’m sure this cast will find its own particular take.

What remains a constant of course is Craig and Charlie Reid’s brilliant songs. The sharp lyrics, irresistible musical hooks and incredible emotional range are the bedrock of any production.

They are the engine that drives the story and deliver such a fantastic experience for the audience. It is still a thrill for me to sit in a packed house and feel them work their magic. I look forward to doing that again at Pitlochry Festival Theatre this year.”

Sunshine on Leith was originally conceived in 2022 in partnership with Capital Theatres and is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.
