Pitlochry Festival Theatre has announced the full cast for its forthcoming production of Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, which forms part of Alan Cumming’s inaugural season as Artistic Director during the venue’s 75th anniversary year.

Leading the production as Winnie is acclaimed stage and screen actor Siobhán Redmond, whose credits include Between the Lines, Two Doors Down, Death in Paradise, The Nest and Unforgotten.

Joining her as Winnie’s husband Willie is Forbes Masson, one of Scotland’s most celebrated actors, who recently appeared alongside Redmond in The High Life – The Musical.

Beckett’s play remains one of the playwright’s most renowned works, offering a darkly comic and deeply moving exploration of endurance, optimism and the human spirit.

In Happy Days, Winnie remains determinedly cheerful despite her world collapsing around her, raising questions about whether her optimism is a sign of resilience or delusion.

The production will be directed by Roxana Silbert, whose recent credits include Girls of Slender Means at the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and Adults at the Traverse Theatre.

The creative team also includes designer Emma Bailey, lighting designer Colin Grenfell and sound designer Hugh Barbour.

Written in 1960 and first performed in New York in 1961, Happy Days helped cement Beckett’s reputation as one of the most significant playwrights of the twentieth century. The role of Winnie has previously been played by performers including Billie Whitelaw, Felicity Kendal, Fiona Shaw, Dianne Wiest, Maxine Peake, Juliet Stevenson and Lisa Dwan.

The production runs in the Studio at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 18 September to 10 October, with press performances scheduled for 23 September.
