Hampstead Theatre has announced full casting and the complete creative team for the world premiere of Firewing, the debut play by David Pearson. The production will run in Hampstead Downstairs from 17 April to 23 May, with a press night on 27 April.
Firewing is described as a striking new play about connection, artistry and control. Set in a remote, dilapidated cabin beside a lake, the story follows Tim, a celebrated but reclusive wildlife photographer, and Marcus, his latest apprentice. As the pair attempt to capture an elusive creature known only as the Firewing, their relationship becomes a test of trust, ambition and the blurred ethics of creation.
Charlie Beck will play Marcus. His theatre credits include Gentlemen at the Arcola and The Breach at Hampstead Theatre. Gerard Horan will play Tim. His extensive stage work includes Jerusalem at the Royal Court and West End, The Ferryman and the RSCās The Christmas Truce, while his screen credits include Detectorists, Belfast, Beauty and the Beast and Immortal Beloved.
Director Alice Hamilton, Associate Director and Head of Artistic Development at Hampstead Theatre, said: āWith Firewing, David has given us a rich and delicate portrait of hope, frailty and the power of human connection. It is a play that is bursting with heart and humour and I feel incredibly lucky to be bringing it to the stage with these two brilliant actors.ā
Pearson is a graduate of Hampstead Theatreās INSPIRE programme for emerging playwrights. Firewing marks his first full-length stage production.
The production will be designed by Good Teeth, with lighting design by Jamie Platt and sound design by Harry Blake.
