The Menier Chocolate Factory has confirmed the full cast for its major revival of Ryan Craig’s The Holy Rosenbergs, directed by Lindsay Posner. The production begins previews on 27 February, opens on 9 March, and runs until 2 May.
Dan Fredenburgh will play Saul, with Nitai Levi as Jonny and Adrian Lukis as Sir Stephen. Dorothea Myer-Bennett takes the role of Ruth, Tracy-Ann Oberman plays Lesley, Nicholas Woodeson appears as David, and Alex Zur completes the company as Simon.
The play follows the Rosenberg family of Edgware as they face personal and political turmoil. David is fighting to save a failing catering business, while Lesley struggles to support him. Their daughter Ruth, investigating war crimes in Gaza for the UN, faces public backlash from her own community.
First staged at the National Theatre in 2011, The Holy Rosenbergs is described as even more timely in its return.
The creative team includes design by Tim Shortall, lighting design by Charles Balfour and sound design by Yvonne Gilbert.
Ryan Craig’s plays include 1984, Charlotte and Theodore, Filthy Business and Portugal. His earlier play What We Did to Weinstein, also staged at the Menier, earned him a nomination for Most Promising Playwright at the Evening Standard Awards.
Lindsay Posner returns to the Menier following previous productions including The Truth, The Lie, Communicating Doors, Abigail’s Party and Dinner with Saddam. He will next direct a new production of Equus for the venue in co-production with Theatre Royal Bath.
